BOB MARLEY’S FAMILY SUES TO STOP HALF-BROTHER FROM USING SINGER’S NAME AND LIKENESS

Fifty-Six Hope Road Music, the entity run by the widow and nine children of late reggae superstar Bob Marley, is going to court to protect the Marley marks from Richard Booker, a half-brother of the singer. According to a lawsuit filed in Florida federal court on Thursday, Booker has been using Marley’s name and image for music festivals and plans to use it in other commercial endeavors. The estate is seeking an injunction against further exploitation of Bob Marley’s likeness. In 2007, Booker filed a trademark application on “Mama Marley,” intending to use the mark on a variety of products, from steamed cakes of smashed fish to low calorie coffee to flavored soft drinks. The application signaled an intent to use “Mama Marley” to open some sort of hotel, bar or restaurant service. The Marley estate opposed the registration on grounds it would confuse consumers and dilute its own Marley intellectual property. The opposition has been pending since 2008. In the meantime, Booker allegedly owns and operates the website, bomarleymovement.com, and has been promoting an annual music festival in Miami, Florida, referring to it at times as the “Marley Fest.” The plaintiff believes such activity will cause irreparable damage to the Bob Marley brand and is now seeking profits and treble damages for allegedly willful infringement.

Yaadcore and Protoje Team Up For 'This Is Protoje'

Download Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?bms0no9ve84tbla
KINGSTON, JAMAICA - More than half a year has gone by since Protoje dropped his album sampler on the streets, physically and virtually. For many of his supporters, it was their first interaction with the work of Yaadcore, the selector whose services were enlisted to mix the five already popular songs with intertwined dashes of the singer's commentary about each of them. Afterwards, The Seven Year Itch album, produced by Don Corleon, dropped to much fanfare and Protoje has since done quite a bit of globetrotting, making appearances in at least 5 European nations and French Guiana on the South American continent. Only a few days after his second consecutive Sumfest appearance on Saturday, July 23, the dub rock artiste has teamed up with Yaadcore once again to create another musical gem: This is Protoje. This time listeners are treated to a barrage of tracks from Protoje's catalog with limited talking. In addition to tracks from 'The Seven Year Itch' , there are also other songs like 'Take Control' and collaborations with Ky-Mani Marley ('Rub-A-Dub Soldier'), Don Corleon ('Our Time Come') and Keida ('All Again'). The project is the brainchild of Yaadcore (who recently altered his artistic name by eliminating the "Rory"), who had a specific vision. One of the few tunes accompanied by narration is, 'Wrong Side of the Law,' which illustrates the general approach. "With 'Wrong Side of the Law' for example, I basically employed a reasoning method," said Yaadcore. "I just pressed record and we just started reasoning and that way Diggy talk 'bout the true story behind the tune." It was during such a recording that a young lady called Yaadcore's phone. He intuitively put her on speakerphone and she was surprised to speak to Protoje personally. It was an invaluable happenstance that ended up being included on This is Protoje. This is Protoje is a free mixtape, available for download at Protoje's official website,www.protoje.com. The singer will be performing at the renown Garance Reggae Festival in France on July 30,to kick start his European Summer Tour.

STILL STANDING

STILL STANDING

This one man show previously played to sold out audiences numerous times at venues in New Providence, Grand Bahama, the family Islands and several Caribbean countries since its debut in March 1996. Still Standing has won eight Danza awards including Best Overall Production and Best Original Work.

In this updated version of the production, Pintard addresses the “black crab syndrome” among his people, speaks candidly about aspects of Bahamian sexuality, gets personal about marriage and challenges us on the issue of violence in the Bahamas. He takes a swipe at politricks and several other topical issues. The poetry, storytelling and dramatic monologues is brutally honest, humorous, witty and sometimes angry.
In this recital he communicates through poetry, storytelling, monologues in the tradition of Pat Rahming, Susan Wallace and Pandora Gibson. In this production Pintard bears his soul and in the process undresses his community. The audience could expect to experience the jubilation and melancholy of romance. However, they must brace themselves for candid and sometimes scorching political, social and cultural commentary.
Despite the commentary, the production is entertaining. Don’t be alarmed if you find yourself tapping your feet, occasionally laughing and definitely gasping at how daring and open the writer is.
